First Devlog

Hi y'all!!

This is our first DevLog, so we will explain what the game is about, who's working on it, what we currently have and what the plans are for the future.

Our game:

We are making a co-op game where the two players need to work together to cimb a cake! But they need to be fast, because there is a monster that is eating the cake from the bottom. The player work together by using their own abilities that help them to climb a layer. each layer of the cake has its own platforms and the layer also rotates.

Our group:

Three artists:

  • CHATTOPADHYAY Samhita
  • BABARCZI Zsófia
  • ARMONAS Danielius

Three programmers:

  • MINJAUW Pelle
  • WARLOP Mathijs
  • KETELAERE Thomas

What we currently have:

Art:

The art style is simple, utilizing round and organic shapes, low poly models, and simple gradients for the textures.

We have concepted some thumbnails for the environment and some characters designs.

To bring some life to the simple texturing, we are going to work on a toon shader with a painterly look. Here is an image of the prototype for the shader that we are currently working on.

Programming:

We tried out different things for prototyping. We have made an ability where the player can jump on another player, so that they can jump higher. We also have a project where we tested out Polar Coordinate System. We use this so that if the players move left or right, it actually also rotates around the cake.

What are the plans for the future:

Art:

Next week we will finalize our character designs and props and figure out a pipeline to make them. As of now, we are thinking about modeling everything in maya/ blender and possibly adding some details to the using zbrush.

Programming:

Next week we're going to try to prototype we can use multiple controllers to move multiple player characters. We also would like to have a working camera, that follows both of the players, zooms in/out if necessary.

Get [Group12]Bake it ‘till you make it!
